Mitsuru Kameya joined the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of the Japanese Government in 1988 as an Agronomist. He has a wide range of experience related to the Ministry, especially for international affairs. He worked for International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome, Italy as an Associate Professional Officer from 1993 to 1996. He took part in the Development Study of a JICA project for prevention of desertification in Segou region, Mali from 1999 to 2001. He was in charge of Plant Variety Protection activities in MAFF related to International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) from 2002 to 2005. He was a First Secretary of Embassy of Japan in Prague, Czech Republic from 2012 to 2015. He has been in charge of promotion of Good Agricultural Practice in Japan since April 2015.
